Six New Businesses You Need to Visit this Fall

October 6, 2026 by Yash Thapa

Summer may be over, but we have a few new Glebe businesses to introduce you to! New businesses are bringing plenty of variety to the Glebe, from tiramisu and sustainable fashion, to crystals and coffee, rehearsal space, strength training and physiotherapy.

Strati Tiramisu

891 Bank Street

Some shops do a little of everything. Strati Tiramisu does one thing extremely well, and that is tiramisu. Owner Nadia builds her layers (that’s what strati means in Italian), in a range of flavors beyond the classic. So plan on a few return visits to work through them all. Consider it your new favorite excuse for a Bank Street stroll.

Pokoloko

797 Bank Street

Pokoloko has built a loyal following in Westboro and beyond with their ethically made, small-batch goods in natural materials. They arrived in the Glebe as a summer pop up, and we’re thrilled to say that they are here to stay. Think soft cotton basics, cozy sweaters, scarves and hats, plus blankets, towels, and robes for your around the house. It’s the kind of place where you stop and for a gift and leave with something for yourself 2.

Altared: An Emporium of Good Things

769 Bank Street (Main Floor)

Part cafe, part boutique, part third space, Altared opened this summer with a simple idea: give people a place that isn’t home or work. ‘Their staff pour coffee, tea, horchata and a rotating lineup of witchy brews”, surrounded by crystals, herbs, slow fashion and wellness goods sourced from small women-owned businesses.

The calendar is just as eclectic, with DJ parties, poetry workshops, craft sessions, concerts and cocktail nights. “We’re not your home or work but a separate space to come gather together” owner Janet Nicol told the Glebe report.

Second Avenue Studio

769 Bank Street (Basement)

Musicians, meet your new rehearsal space. Created by Myles and Austin Walls, two musicians who built the studio with fellow artists in mind. Second Avenue Studio offers a clean, sound treated room for band practice, podcast recording and content creation, and is bookable for a single session or on a monthly basis. The walls are built to keep the sound in, so your drummer can finally go for it.

One Academy

900 Bank Street

Toronto fitness studio One Academy has brought its signature HiFLUX strength and conditioning classes to the Glebe. Every 60-minute class is professionally coached and built for everyone from beginners to seasoned athletes. If group classes aren’t your thing, they also offer one-on-one personal training. The perks don’t hurt either: showers, towel service and the OA Cafe for post-workout refuel. Their motto is “We are stronger as one,” and a two-week unlimited trial is the easiest way to put it to the test.

Physiomax Health

619 Bank Street

After building a following at their South Keys clinic, Physiomax Health has opened its second location in the Glebe. Led by owner and physiotherapist Shikha, they offer individualized, research-driven physiotherapy for orthopedic and sports injuries, concussion and vestibular rehab, prenatal and postnatal care, pediatric physio and more. Whether you’re bouncing back from a weekend game gone sideways or finally dealing with that nagging shoulder, help is now just steps away from your favorite Bank Street shops.

Keep an Eye Out

Octopus Books has been running a summer pop-up at 763 Bank Street, stocked with books and gifts you won’t find at their Third Avenue shop. The pop-up is keeping the space warm for Purebread, a local staple at the Ottawa Farmers’ Market, as it prepares for its first retail location. Catch the pop-up while you can. Over at Lansdowne, Ajisen Ramen is on its way with their first Ottawa location. Nuovo Photography will also be opening a location at Lansdowne. The fine art portrait studio is known for empowering self-love, couples and maternity sessions, each with a signature look created by a Nuovo makeup artist.

As you welcome these new members to our business community, we’re reminded of what makes the Glebe such a special place to liv, work and play. We encourage you all to stop by these new establishments and show them the warm welcome our community is known for!

Welcome to the Glebe, and here’s to many successful years ahead!

Midsummer in the Glebe: Looking Back, Looking Ahead

July 8, 2026 by Yash Thapa

We’re officially at the halfway point of summer, and what a season it has been. Between the buzz of late spring and the long warm evenings of July, the Glebe has been busier than ever. Before we get swept up in everything still to come, we wanted to pause and look back over the past couple of months.

What we got up to in May and June

The Great Glebe Garage Sale. Our biggest day of the year did not disappoint. Bank Street and the entire neighbourhood turned into one sprawling treasure hunt, with neighbours, browsers and bargain-hunters out in full force. We estimate we had over 30,000 visitors come hunt in the Glebe this year. The Glebe Business Improvement Area (Glebe BIA) took on new challenges and expanded the event this year by managing and facilitating the new avenue closures. These resulted in more pedestrian-only zones and added great community energy for the first time ever, much to the delight of the entire event! Thank you to everyone who stopped by, supported our businesses, set up tables, or simply soaked up the atmosphere. It’s a tradition that only works because the whole community shows up for it.

City Sounds Live. Our summer concert series kicked off in June at the Fourth Avenue Baptist Church Courtyard at 816 Bank Street, presented in partnership with Ottawa Music Industry Coalition. To bring more artists and music-lovers to the Glebe, we spearheaded special partnerships with Ottawa Jazz Festival, Ottawa Chamberfest, and Ottawa Grassroots Festival. We welcomed hundreds of visitors to the courtyard for free live performances across a diverse range of musical genres. The energy was exactly what we had hoped for, with visitors and residents pulling up a chair, discovering new artists, supporting local businesses and turning their Saturday mornings into something special.

New art on Bank Street. If you’ve looked up lately, you’ve seen these stunning new artworks. The current Bank Street banners feature Hardi Vora’s Glebe: Seasons of a Century series, bringing a fresh splash of colour and local character to the streetscape. The Glebe BIA commissioned these unique banners to celebrate the Glebe’s history alongside the city-wide Ottawa 200 celebration.

A few changes to the neighbourhood. We welcomed new faces to the Glebe business community, like Next Golf, Pokoloko, Altared: An Emporium of Good Things, Second Avenue Studio, and Golf Town. The Glebe is always evolving, and we’re grateful for every business that makes this such a vibrant place to shop, eat and wander.

What’s coming in July and August

The second half of summer is shaping up to be just as full. Here are some big things to look forward to:

Wednesday Night Live Music Series. The good vibes continue, but this time at night! Join us for free live musical performances on Wednesdays starting at 6 pm at the Fourth Avenue Baptist Church Courtyard from Wednesday July 8 to Wednesday August 12. This new series, in partnership with the Ottawa-Gatineau Music Association Local 180 brings new sounds and talent to the Courtyard, adding a soundtrack to your Wednesday evening in the Glebe, while you stroll, dine and relax in the golden hour. Click here for more details!

Wine and Dine the Glebe. This summer, explore the Glebe one bite at a time. Our beloved neighbourhood dining challenge is official back! This challenge is your guide to local flavours, patios, and culinary gems. Dine at the seven participating Glebe restaurants for a chance to win a grand prize valued at over $1000 in local dining. New this year: you can turn your regular visit to Glebe favourites into a bonus stamp by stopping at one of our four Culinary Explorer Bonus shops!  Click here to learn more.

See you out there

Summer in the Glebe is the perfect time to slow down and enjoy everything the neighbourhood has to offer. Whether you’re catching a show, finding a patio, browsing the shops or just taking a stroll down Bank Street, we hope you’ll spend some of these long days with us in the Glebe.

There’s plenty more summer to come, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
