As the Arena at TD Place gears up to be the epicentre of Canadian university basketball for the U SPORTS Men’s and Women’s Final 8 in March, the nation’s top basketball rivalry will take over TD Place for the annual Capital Hoops Classic on Friday, Feb. 7, 2020.
In partnership with the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, and the Ottawa Sports & Entertainment Group (OSEG), another chapter of the Rivalry Series will be brought to TD Place this season.
On the women’s side, the Ottawa Gee-Gees will look to push their winning streak to two games after defeating the Ravens 61-52 last season. The Gee-Gees went on to win the U SPORTS bronze medal, their first national medal since 2012, while Carleton retooled after winning the national title the year prior. This season, both teams will be battling for top spot in the OUA East with the Ravens guaranteed a berth in the Final 8 and the Gee-Gees gunning to earn theirs.
On the men’s side, the Carleton Ravens have been dominant as of late at the Capital Hoops Classic, winning the previous three since Ottawa’s last win in 2016. To start 2019-20, both teams have been tied atop the OUA East standings. The Ravens are building a strong case to defend their national title, while the Gee-Gees are once again gaining steam as the challenger to the throne having already secured their trip back to TD Place come March.
The women’s game will be set for a 6 p.m. tip-off, while the men’s game will get underway at 8 p.m.
