Something Rotten! Musical Theatre

April 13, 2026 by CaitlinMcKinlay

GNAG Community Theatre is thrilled to present Something Rotten!

Theatre is always a risky business. Shakespeare is a rockstar. Literally. And his rivals? Two struggling playwrights who are desperate for a hit until a slightly offbeat soothsayer predicts the future of theatre: Tragedy with singing! Comedy with dancing! Wait… what? A musical? A show set in the 1590s with the energy, comedy, and music of the 21st century!

Something Rotten! is a laugh-out-loud mashup of Elizabethan costume drama, Broadway razzle-dazzle, and Monty Python-style madness — with a joyful shuffle-step through Annie, Jesus Christ Superstar, and all your favourite musicals.

Stratford is also putting on Something Rotten! this year after only having produced it in 2024. Stratford almost never repeats a play this quickly but clearly it’s because it’s an amazingly funny and clever show. But you could see it here first!
  • Child (under 12 years): $28+ ticketing fees
  • Adult: $38+ ticketing fees
  • Student (12+) / Senior (65 +): $33+ ticketing fees

This musical is PG-13 — There are lots of jokes that are double entendre that will be picked up by grown-ups, but not by children. It’s bawdy but not rated R, just the jokes are on a more adult level, so it won’t be nearly as funny for kids.

Film Screening: Saying Goodbye: Preparing for Death

April 9, 2026 by CaitlinMcKinlay

The When You Die Project is pleased to screen the second chapter in the When You Die documentary trilogy in partnership with the second annual Legacy Expo, and sponsored in kind by Amica – The Glebe Senior Lifestyles. Following the screening there will be a Q&A and discussion with light refreshments, giving you a chance to learn, reflect, and share your thoughts in a relaxed setting. Whether you’re curious or seeking comfort, this event offers a supportive space to connect and prepare together.

Saying Goodbye: Preparing for Death

How can we talk about death? What is a good death? Does the body need help to die? What quality of life is enough for us? Where do we want to die? What is a conscious death? Could we have one?

Through stories from professionals who have spent their careers at the bedside, “Saying Goodbye” opens the door to good conversations about what is possible as we pass from this life, and what that may look like for us and our loved ones. Exploring what happens after death not only helps us decide how we want to be cared for at the end of life, but it reduces our fear of death and that, as is often said, helps us live more fully.

Experts featured in the documentary:

Rev. David Maginley, M.Div; Rev. Olivia Bareham; Dr. Ann Marie Chiasson, MD; Julie McFadden, RN; Dr. Penny Sartori, PhD; Dr. Peter Fenwick, MD; Sue Brayne, MA; Dr. Anthony Bossis, PhD; Dr. Andrew Holecek, DDS; Jill Schock, MTS; Dr. Laurie Mallery, MD; Dr. Paige Moorhouse, MD.

  • Doors open at 1:30pm.
  • Screening starts at 1:45pm.
  • 2nd Floor Theatre Room at Amica – The Glebe Senior Lifestyles

The When You Die Project:

The When You Die Project exists to explore what might happen when we die, and to open thoughtful, honest conversations about death — a cultural dialogue too often avoided. The When You Die Team believes talking about death isn’t dangerous; but in fact, it can nurture healthier individuals and families who approach the end of life informed, inspired, and even with a sense of humor. By approaching the topic of dying with curiosity rather than fear, and compassion rather than silence, we help return death to its rightful place as a natural part of life. When we demystify the dying process, we create the conditions for a more conscious and meaningful end — and often, a more intentional way of living. The When You Die Project is an educational resource website, a podcast host, the home to an engaged online community via social media, but ultimately at the heart of the project is a documentary trilogy about what happens when we die. Find out more at www.WhenYouDie.org.

The Legacy Expo

April 7, 2026 by CaitlinMcKinlay

The Ottawa Legacy Expo: Too often we hear, “I wish I had known about this sooner.” The Legacy Expo exists to make sure you do.

The Legacy Expo is a three-day community event designed to connect, educate, and empower. The weekend includes a networking event and an intimate film screening of Saying Goodbye: Preparing for Death, but at the heart of it is the Legacy Expo on Sunday, May 3rd—a free public event from 12–3 PM at the Glebe Community Center.

With 30+ vendors and four engaging presentations, attendees can explore topics such as downsizing and navigating life’s next chapter, caregiver support and resources (both online and in-person), hospice care for humans and pets, grief support for families and those in the workplace, and the role of artistic creativity in healing. Curious about sound baths or how to talk to children about grief? These are just two of the workshops being offered throughout the day—there truly is something for everyone at this free event.

The Legacy Expo highlights the depth and diversity of services available in the Ottawa region, especially for those who are growing older, stepping into caregiving roles, planning ahead, or simply wanting to be informed before it’s too late. It’s about being proactive, not reactive.

If you have any questions about the Legacy Expo we invite you to send them along to legacyexpoevents@gmail.com.
