Summer Sports in the Glebe

June 9, 2023

Summer has officially arrived, and with it, an action-packed season of sports at Lansdowne Park!  As the home base for the BlackJacks, REDBLACKS, and Atlético, TD Place will be serving up plenty of exciting games to enjoy right here in town. Lansdowne Park will also play host to a series of international competitions in a variety of sports, showcasing top athletes from around the world. TD Place is the ultimate destination for sports fans in Ottawa this summer, so grab your jerseys, rally your friends, and head over to cheer on your favourite team!

Football fans, get ready to cheer on the REDBLACKS, Ottawa's very own Canadian Football League (CFL) team! The REDBLACKS made their highly anticipated CFL debut in 2014, and played their inaugural home game at the, then new, TD Place Stadium at Lansdowne on July 18, 2014, where they battled the Toronto Argonauts. In 2016, only their third season, the team won their first Grey Cup Championship, marking a historical moment in the city’s football history! Since then, the Ottawa REDBLACKS have continued to make their mark in the CFL. Whether you're looking for a night out with your friends, or to have fun with the whole family, going to see our local football team is always an exciting experience. For the basketball fanatics out there, why not catch the Ottawa Blackjacks, doing what they do best, at one of their home games at TD Place? The Blackjacks have been representing Ottawa as our professional basketball team since 2019, competing in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). The Blackjacks have quickly established themselves as a prominent force on the Canadian basketball scene. Click HERE for their full schedule.

More of a soccer fan? We have a professional team right here in the Glebe! Wanting to emulate the incredible soccer community in Madrid, Atlético de Madrid joined forces with the Canadian Premier League to give birth to Atlético Ottawa. They have since created new opportunities for young Canadian players and fostered a sense of unity within the local soccer community. Even the Capital City Supporters Group was established, an organization dedicated to forming traditions, building excitement surrounding Atlético match days, and growing awareness of the sport in Ottawa! If you prefer to watch from the comfort of your local pub, the Glebe Central Pub has been declared Atletico’s official stomping ground and home to all the viewing parties. To find the next home game, click HERE.

The Glebe is also hosting some prestigious international events this summer, such as the Men's Volleyball Nations League and the Women's World Rugby Pacific Four Series

From June 6 to 11, 2023, the Arena at TD Place will be the venue for Week One of the Men's 2023 Volleyball Nations League tournament, playing host to some of the world's top volleyball teams, including Canada, USA, Argentina, Italy, Cuba, Germany, Netherlands, and Brazil. Whether you're a die-hard volleyball fan, or simply love the energy of live sports, this tournament is not to be missed! Buy tickets HERE.

On July 8 and 14, Ottawa will host Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the USA for the 2023 Pacific Four Series, an international women’s rugby tournament! Team Canada’s first battle is against the mighty New Zealand Black Ferns on July 8 at 7 p.m. ET. This event will mark the first time in eight years that Canada has hosted such an event, so secure your tickets now and be a part of this historic moment, by clicking HERE.

With a packed line-up of events, the Glebe is set to be a summer hotspot for sports enthusiasts, offering a diverse range of competitions and the opportunity to cheer on both local and international athletes. Join us at Lansdowne Park this summer!
