The Glebe Business Improvement Association (BIA) has seen the installation of more than 20 murals in the Glebe over the years as part of the Ultimate Glebe Mural Walk. The goal is to support local artists, celebrate diversity and inclusion, deter graffiti, add vibrancy to our streetscape, and pay homage the Glebe.
The Glebe BIA and Amica Senior Lifestyles are now accepting submissions for a new interactive art installation in the heart of the community. The BIA and Amica The Glebe are commissioning a captivating vinyl wall design and adjacent sidewalk art installation that will adorn the walls and sidewalk of our beloved neighborhood. Artist and artist teams are invited to propose design interactive projects that will enrich the on-street experience in the neighbourhood and encourage engagement from passersby. The selected artist must be able to work in digital design and mural painting.
About the Glebe: Nestled in the heart of Ottawa, the Glebe boasts a rich history as well as contemporary vitality. From its humble beginnings as farmland to its transformation into a thriving urban hub, the Glebe resonates with the echoes of its past while embracing the pulse of modern life.
Submission Considerations:
Community and Culture: At the heart of the Glebe are its local businesses that create connections among residents and enhance community vitality. Your design would help foster a sense of belonging and connectedness, and appeal to multiple generations.
Interactive Photo Opportunity: In today's digital age, capturing moments has become an integral part of our cultural experience. Your design should not only have street appeal but also draw visitors to the Glebe over the shared experience of creating a memorable moment. Create visual elements that entice viewers to interact with your artwork, prompting them to snap a picture and share their experience. One angle could be to make sidewalk portion of the piece appear three-dimensional via optical illusion.
Submission Requirements & Guidelines:
- Your proposal should include one preliminary concept sketch (can be pencil and paper) along with a brief description (300 words max.) outlining how your design would foster a sense of connectedness and encourage viewers to engage with it as an interactive photo opportunity.
- A letter of Interest no more than one page, explaining the artist’s or artist’s teams’ interest in the project, and experience working on comparable projects.
- A portfolio of previous work in the public realm, including an example of work printed in vinyl.
- An estimate to produce the sidewalk artwork and purchase the reproduction rights for the digital file.

- Submission Deadline: Thursday, October 17, 2024, at noon
- Announcement of Selected Artist: Friday, November 1, 2024
- Design Installation: TBA (weather dependent)
