With their voracious consumption\, unbridled resource exploitation\, and relentless obstruction of climate action\, they are rapidly undermining democracy and destroying the very viability of the earth for human life. \nTheir staggering power and hoarding of wealth have prompted a number of G20 nations to consider imposing a wealth tax\, aimed exclusively at the super-rich. In Canada\, such a tax would apply only to those with wealth above $25 million. Yet it could collect $40 billion a year — funding public programs that could immensely improve the lives of millions of Canadians while clipping the wings of the super-rich. \nBillionaires would threaten to depart. But as they left the country that had nourished them and enabled them to grow so wildly rich\, they’d face a hefty “exit tax” on the way out. \nYes\, change is possible. \nLinda McQuaig is the recipient of a National Newspaper Award for investigative reporting. The National Post has described her as “Canada’s Michael Moore.” She is also the author of eight national bestsellers\, including Shooting the Hippo\, selected by the Literary Review of Canada as one of the twenty-five most influential books of the past twenty-five years. The weekend includes a networking event and an intimate film screening of Saying Goodbye: Preparing for Death\, but at the heart of it is the Legacy Expo on Sunday\, May 3rd—a free public event from 12–3 PM at the Glebe Community Center.  \nWith 30+ vendors and four engaging presentations\, attendees can explore topics such as downsizing and navigating life’s next chapter\, caregiver support and resources (both online and in-person)\, hospice care for humans and pets\, grief support for families and those in the workplace\, and the role of artistic creativity in healing. Curious about sound baths or how to talk to children about grief? These are just two of the workshops being offered throughout the day—there truly is something for everyone at this free event. \nThe Legacy Expo highlights the depth and diversity of services available in the Ottawa region\, especially for those who are growing older\, stepping into caregiving roles\, planning ahead\, or simply wanting to be informed before it’s too late.
