On January 19, 2019, We March Again!
The march starts at 11:00 on Parliament Hill.
Women’s March Ottawa would like to acknowledge that Ottawa is on the unceded territory of the Algonquin people. We keep this acknowledgement at the forefront of our March and thank the Algonquin people for allowing us to gather. And we thank the generations of Indigenous women who have taken care of this land before us and continue to fight for mother nature.
We also make it clear that Women’s March Ottawa does not tolerate violence, racism or sexism of any kind, including cissexism and heterosexism. We do not support ableism, colonialism or any other forms of oppression. We strive to create an event that centres the experiences of marginalized communities, especially folks impacted by racism, anti-black racism, colonialism, ableism and transphobia. It is intended to celebrate diversity, inclusion and empowerment of ALL who are women!
Importantly, the work of Women’s March Canada and Women’s March Ottawa is centred on Martin Luther King’s principles of non-violent protest and peaceful civic demonstration. If you cannot adhere to the core values, please do not attend our events. If you believe in these principles – we can’t wait to see you there!
WE MARCH AGAIN. In solidarity with women and human rights groups from across the world, we will march again to show that the progress made in 2017 was not enough. There is still so much work to do to protect and advance the rights of women and the rights of all vulnerable citizens in our country.
Women’s organizations in Ottawa, along with us, invite you to save the date for a timely conversation about women’s issues and practical tools for community-organizing and lobbying in Ottawa.
