SUMMARY:Book Talk | Stitching Our Stories Together: Journeys into Indigenous Social Work
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a discussion of Stitching Our Stories Together: Journeys into Indigenous Social Work\, a collection of graduate research by Indigenous social work scholars\, with one of the book’s editors\, Catherine Richardson. \nStitching Our Stories Together showcases emerging scholars who\, by centering their own nations\, communities\, and individual realities\, demonstrate how Indigenous knowledges can challenge settler ideas and myths around pan-Indigeneity. \nThis collection is bookended with reflections from the scholars’ thesis supervisors\, who describe their philosophy of mentoring and supporting students through an Indigenous lens\, and how their pedagogies embrace the significance of relationality in Indigenous worldviews. \nStitching Our Stories Together points toward a future where Indigenous ways of knowing and being take their rightful place in spaces of higher learning and social work practice—a necessary intervention in a discipline that has historically been complicit in colonialist harm. \n“These teachings of Indigenous ways of knowing and being\, written by Indigenous graduate students who share their ideas\, stories\, and life experiences\, open the door for new ways of doing within academia\, within social work practice\, and within broader society.” —Dr. Sheri M. McConnell\, Memorial University \nCatherine Richardson is a Métis professor and Director of the Concordia University First Peoples Studies Program. She is a registered clinical counsellor whose research focuses on Indigenous well-being\, social service delivery\, and recovery from interpersonal and systemic violence.

SUMMARY:North Star - de Montigny Contemporary Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Big news! We are thrilled to announce that we will present a selection of “The Legend of the Palestinian Sasquatch” series by Amanda Boulos in our next group exhibition\, North Star\, Opening March 7!\n\n\n\nThis body of work was first presented at Centre Clark in Montréal in late 2024. The Legend of the Palestinian Sasquatch delves into Boulos’ family narratives from Palestine\, Lebanon\, and Canada\, intertwined with her personal journey. The series features Sasquatch drawings that echo the likeness of her male relatives. Complementing these works are landscapes depicting significant places that have shaped her life—from Prince Edward Island and Alberta to Lebanon and Palestine.\n\n\n\nAmanda Boulos (she/her) is a visual artist and educator based in Tkaronto/Toronto. Boulos engages with fragmented national narratives from Palestine\, Lebanon\, and Canada to explore how oral histories can morph into the future of the Palestinian diaspora or shattat. She received her MFA from the University of Guelph and her BFA from York University. Boulos has exhibited in Toronto\, New York\, Montréal\, and Halifax. She is an Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at OCAD University\, a Toronto project space the plumb member\, and a Toronto Palestine Film Festival programmer.
