Weekend What’s Up: Yoga, REDBLACKS, Fury, Theatre, Art, and More
We’ve got just the spot for you to celebrate all weekend long! Head to the Glebe for a seriously stacked roster of events including yoga, book releases, theatre, the city’s largest wellness festival, an art fair and both a REDBLACKS game and Fury FC match.
Start your weekend early with a gathering for yoga enthusiasts. Thursday evening will be filled with speed networking, mala bracelet making, a HIIT yoga fusion class and group meditation. The Drop Yoga event runs Thursday, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m, at the Glebe Community Centre. There’s surely no better way to relax after the long week! Click here for more details.
If you’re looking for another way to kick off your weekend early, head to Octopus books and join Libby Davies as she launches her new book. Outside In is both a political and personal memoir of Davies’ forty years of work at the intersection of politics and social movements. Be sure to free up your calendar either Friday or Saturday night, to see Seventeen Voyces presentation of Nosferatu: A Comic Chamber Opera by Kevin Reeves. It promises to be great fun with superb soloists, chorus and instrumentalists. Both shows begin at 7:30 p.m, at Glebe St. James United Church. On Saturday, Lansdowne will become home to Ottawa’s largest health and wellness festival, City of Om. What started as a yoga festival has now evolved to also include meditation, cooking workshops, a beer garden, rock climbing, blacklight classes, a kids zone and over 50 vendors. Hoping to make it a full day of football? Drop by early, at 1 p.m, to watch the CFL Prospects Game. The inaugural edition of this annual event will feature 72 top high school football players from across the country. Former REDBLACKS QB Henry Burris will serve as a head coach during the event filled with future NCAA and CFL stars. REDBLACKS fans with a ticket to Saturday’s pre-season game can get into the Prospects game for FREE or tickets can be purchased here.
Also Saturday, check out the Art Exhibition and Sale featuring art created by Glebe Centre Residents. There will be something for everyone including a BBQ (with vegan options), musical entertainment, a Creation Station and a special unveiling of the Community Art Project at Amica. Enjoy playing or watching basketball while supporting a good cause? Ball Out for CHEO is a basketball tournament held at Lansdowne on June 2nd. The all-day event includes basketball games, a live DJ, giveaway prizes and food. Register your team or just drop by to view the tournament and enjoy the music, food and drinks. The Ottawa Fury are set to face off against the Charlotte Independence this weekend. The Fury are unbeaten in their last five games and sit in 7th place overall in the Eastern Conference.
