Weekend What’s Up: Final Market Weekend, NCR Gala, Public Skating in the Glebe
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Glebe. With toys in every store. But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be in your own back yard!
The weekend is full of festive fun with holiday markets, public skating, music and art and holiday camps for kids at GNAG.
It’s the final weekend of the Ottawa Christmas Market, which kicks off Friday at 5 p.m. at the Casino Lac Leamy Square at Lansdowne. Browse for unique gift from the retailer cabins, warm up by the bon fires, sip mulled wine and beer and take in some live entertainment courtesy Breakfast in Bed and Rebecca Noelle. On Saturday, the big jolly man comes through the market from 2-4 p.m. for visits with the kids. He will also be there on Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2-4 p.m. Also, on Saturday, cozy up in front of the outdoor screen and watch the holiday classic Elf, featuring Will Ferrell. The movie screens at 4:30 p.m. before local artists Andrew Waines and The Keystrings take over the outdoor stage. Sunday’s market boasts horse and wagon rides, visits with Santa and music by Shawn Tavenier and Tara Shannon. Learn more about the Ottawa Christmas Market here.
Running alongside the Christmas market on both Saturday and Sunday is the Ottawa Farmers’ Market Holiday Edition, where you can score unique handmade Christmas gifts that will bring a wide smile to your loved ones. The market runs both Saturday and Sunday inside the Aberdeen Pavilion. Click here for details. Also, on Saturday is the NCR Uncovered Art and Music Gala that showcases the best in art, music and food in the National Capital Region. Critically-acclaimed restaurateurs have created a customized menu with booming rhythms from chart topping artists providing the soundtrack. And all of it set to the backdrop of a carefully curated selection of NCR’s up-and-coming visual artists. The gala kicks off at 4:30 p.m. at the Horticulture Building. Click here for tickets.
Strap up the blades and have fun skating around the Arena at TD Place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Lululemon Free Skate. The clothing company has hired a DJ and has organized a number of fun, on-ice games and goodies. It’s completely free!
And you might as well keep your skates on all day for the DJ Skate Night Holiday Edition Saturday Night. Don your Santa or elf hat and go for a skate at the Arena at TD Place. The DJ Skate Night: Holiday Edition hits the ice at 7 p.m. and features a live bumping DJ who will be spinning all the holiday classics you love and enjoy. Tickets are just $5. Click here.
It’s a festive weekend in the Glebe. Happy holidays!
