Weekend What’s Up: Magic shows, holiday markets, pottery sales and teddy bears in the Glebe
And for my next trick, I will make you really really want to spend the weekend in the Glebe.
It’s a magical weekend in the neighbourhood, complete with holiday markets, visits with Santa and a world class magic show that will bend your brain and melt your mind.
The weekend gets sorcerous start Thursday night when a handful of the world’s top illusionists levitate into TD Place for Champions of Magic. These five tricksters are being hailed as, “The Avengers of Magic” and are embarking across the country after a record-breaking run in Toronto earlier this year. Tickets are already going poof, so you’ll want to scoop them up quick. Click here for tickets.
On Friday afternoon, the Ottawa Potters Guild kicks off their annual Holiday Sale inside the Horticulture Building. Browse stunning works from over 30 local potters – everything from functional ware, sculptural and decorative pieces and special Christmas ornaments to hang from your tree this season. The sale also boasts a Mug Market to get that “World’s Greatest…” coffee mug for that special someone in your life. The kids will even have fun getting dirty in the Kids’ Clay Play Area. The sale runs Friday from 3-9 p.m., Saturday from 9-6 p.m. and Sunday from 9-5 p.m. Click here for details.
Once you’ve cruised through the pottery sale, head outside to the Casino Lac Leamy Square for the Ottawa Christmas Market, which opens its gates at 5 p.m. Friday night boasts a solid lineup of local tunes with Kristin McCaig, Marley Marie and Breakfast in Bed opening up the night before folk pop duo A Leverage for Mountains closes out the stage at 8:45 p.m. Saturday’s market features choral music, horse-drawn wagon rides and visits with Santa at 2 p.m. The kids can also cuddle up and watch Arthur Christmas on the outdoor screen at 4:30 p.m. Sunday features another solid lineup of tunes with Danielle Allard and Pierre-Herve Goulet and others sharing the stage. Click here for full details on the Ottawa Christmas Market.
Running alongside the Christmas Market is the Ottawa Farmers’ Market Holiday edition, running both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Browse from scores of local artisans, merchants and farmers inside the Aberdeen Pavilion as you check things off your Christmas list. The Market runs every Saturday and Sunday in December from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Click here for details.
To say the Ottawa 67’s are on fire would be a major understatement. They have exploded! They’ve won an impressive nine consecutive games and are 9-1-0 in their last 10 games. They’re currently tied with Peterborough for first place in the OHL. They’ll try to make it 10 in a row Saturday afternoon when the Barrie Colts blow into town. Puck drop is at 2 p.m. Click here for tickets. On Sunday, it’s the 67’s Annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used teddy bear to throw on the ice after the 67’s score their first goal. The bears will be donated to the Salvation Army and CHEO for less fortunate kids. Let’s make it rain teddy bears Sunday afternoon. Click here for tickets to Sunday’s game.
Also on Sunday is the Fifth Annual Snowfall Handmade show at the Glebe Community Centre where you can browse handmade items from over 50 local artisans selling everything from handmade food items, clothing, toys, home décor, body products and vintage goods. The sale runs Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Click here for details.
