Weekend What’s Up: DJ Skate Night, Slavic Festival, Ottawa 67’s hockey in the Glebe
You may have been afraid of going outside this morning with the thermometer reading -26C.
You may have decided in that moment to turn up the fire, pull up the blankets and just hibernate all weekend.
But with warmer weather expected this weekend – and a whole galaxy of fun events to take in, you’ll want to change your plans.
Forecasts are calling for a decent weekend in the low digits, with Sunday looking to warm up to 3C. Couple that with a roster of fun events to take in and you’ll want to spend Thursday through Sunday right here in the Glebe.
The weekend starts early this week with Beer & Bites at the Glebe Community Centre Thursday night. Enjoy a four-course meal paired perfectly with four various beers for just $70. The event runs from 7-9 p.m. Click here for details.
Are you an old school hip hop head? Strap on your skates and take a nostalgic trip back to the 80s and 90s at the Arena at TD Place Friday night. It’s their monthly DJ Skate Night, but this week it’s an old school hip hop theme. Skaters are encouraged to dress up, get into the spirit and groove around the rink to the live DJ. On Saturday, you’ll want to show up at the Aberdeen Pavilion with a suitcase to fill with all sorts of goodies, vintage finds and antique gifts at 613 Flea. The monthly flea market is back this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Browse hundreds of vendors and score serious deals on everything from comic books and video games to antique furniture. Celebrate Eastern Slavic culture at the horticulture building all day Saturday for Maslenitsa from noon to 7 p.m. Taste traditional Russian and Ukrainian Bliny, perogies, borsch and pelmeni while learning about these Eastern European countries. The Ottawa 67’s are also back in action at TD Place Arena Saturday night with a date against the high-flying Oshawa Generals. The 67’s have already clinched the Eastern Conference title but are looking to improve details of their game before playoffs begin. Saturday’s game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. Click here for details.
On Sunday, you can check out the Ottawa Farmers’ Market at Lansdowne Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. inside the Aberdeen Pavilion. Browse a range of local produce, browse artisan goods and gobble up hot eats and cool treats. Click here for more information.
