The St. Patrick’s Day Parade takes place Saturday, March 19 in the Glebe.

St. Patrick’s Day has arrived in the Glebe and the community is going green for the next few days.

The Glebe will be overrun by patrons donning green, and sipping green beer at whatever patio they can find open. There will be live music at many of our Glebe pubs, as well as traditional Irish fare offered at the scores of great restaurants that make the Glebe home.

But the fun doesn’t stop there, as the St. Patrick’s Day celebration really happens on Saturday in the Glebe.

It all starts with the Irish Society of Ottawa’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade that will cruise all along Bank Street to Lansdowne, showcasing the scores of colourful floats that Ottawa designers have created. The parade begins at 11 a.m. at City Hall before heading down Bank Street and eventually finishing at Lansdowne.

Come down early and get a front row spot to catch this exciting parade, as Bank Street will be closed to traffic from about 11 a.m. until after the parade passes by.

Don your best green, paint your face up, wear a green cape or top hat and show Ottawa that the Glebe is the place to be for St. Paddy’s Day.

Once the parade passes by, there are loads of activities all day Saturday to keep the family rolling. There is everything from a thumb wrestling tournament and Irish dancing to Gaelic football and a hurling contest.

It all starts at 11 a.m. and goes til late with Beau’s putting on a massive evening party at the Aberdeen Pavilion that includes Celtic punk rockers Celkilt and bhangra, electronic, funk, reggae, hip hop and Celtic fusion band Delhi to Dublin.

So, come to the Glebe this St. Patrick’s Day and celebrate the Irish in style. Share your photos online using the hashtag #StPatsDayGlebe and we will share your memories.
