Playoff matchups set for the Brier in the Glebe

It’s down to the final four at the 2016 Tim Horton’s Brier in the Glebe.

Team Northern Ontario is poised to be the first team to win the Brier with an unbeaten record since Alberta’s Kevin Martin did it back-to-back in 2008 and 2009.

But they will have to get through Newfoundland and Labrador tonight at TD Place in the Page playoff 1-2 game at 7:30 p.m.

Brad Gushue’s Newfoundland squad also had an impressive round-robin, notching nine wins and only two losses in the tournament so far. One of their losses came against Brad Jacobs and Northern Ontario while the other was handed down by Team Ontario. Does Northern Ontario have it in them to beat Newfoundland a second time? The match starts at 7:30 p.m. tonight at TD Place in the Glebe. Click here for tickets.

The winner of tonight’s Page playoff between Northern Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador will advance directly to Sunday’s Gold Medal final, with the loser dropping down to the semi-finals against either Manitoba’s Mike McEwen or Alberta’s Kevin Koe. Alberta and Manitoba square off Saturday afternoon to fight for a spot in the evening semi-final.

Alberta’s Kevin Koe has won his last two meetings against Manitoba’s McEwen – a 9-4 win earlier this week at the Brier and last December at the Home Hardware Canada Cup final in Grand Prairie. McEwen knows he can beat Koe though, as he defeated Alberta during round robin play last December.

The two face off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday for a chance to play in the evening’s semi-final. The loser will be sent to the Bronze medal match.

Sunday’s Bronze medal game takes place at 2:30 p.m. at TD Place, with the Gold Medal match starting at 7:30 p.m. Sunday night. Click here for tickets.
