Ottawa 67’s return to action Friday night, home opener Sept. 29
It’s been a long off season for the Ottawa 67’s after their heartbreaking loss in the OHL Finals last year – and it’s no surprise that the boys are back and ready to take what’s theirs this season.
The Barber Poles open up the season Friday night in enemy territory, Guelph, against the team that dashed their Memorial Cup hopes last season. To say they’ll want revenge over the Storm would be a massive understatement.
“We want to be really fast. Fast to play against, fast in the transition, fast on the puck,” head coach André Tourigny said on the team’s website. “We want to be relentless. Every night, we want to be the hardest working team out there.”
When the puck drops Friday night to open the 2019-2020 season, Ottawa will be doing it with the highest of expectations. The 67’s enter the season as the league’s team to beat, according to The Record newspaper in Kitchener, which released its 2019-2020 OHL rankings earlier this week. The 67’s are ranked #1 with Oshawa and Peterborough close behind. In the CHL rankings, Ottawa sits fourth.
And while the team lost a few key players to the NHL, including scoring leaders Tye Felhaber, Sash Chmelevski and back stopper Mikey DiPietro, they still have the most impressive lineup with offensive monsters Austen Keating and Marco Rossi, while goaltender Cedric Andree is clearly the man in the crease. Andree posted an impressive 34-5-2 record last year with a .910 save percentage.
With the loss of a few studs up front, the 67’s didn’t waste time improving, as they acquired forward Dylan Robinson from Oshawa in exchange for future draft picks. The 2018 OHL Cup MVP posted seven points in 34 games in his rookie season for the Generals and should fit in with the 67’s offence this season.
“Dylan is a player who will add size, tenacity and skill to our line-up,” said 67’s General Manager James Boyd. “We are excited to see Dylan on the ice in the very near future.”
The 67’s may open up on the road, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the action. Crust & Crate is hosting a Season-Opener Viewing Party Friday night that will feature live game action, prize giveaways and trivia. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. Click here for details.
The 67’s open up the season with three away games before they come home Sept. 29 for their home-opener and is it ever set to be a homecoming party. The buzz is already building in the Glebe and it likely won’t stop all season.
This season is full of excitement with 10 awesome theme games, including a F-R-I-E-N-D-S Night, the annual Halloween game, and Ugly Christmas Sweater Game and a Britney Spears Appreciation Night. Yes, you heard that right.
