In just three days, the Glebe will be transformed into a musical wonderland when Marvest takes over the neighourhood Sept. 18-19.

Over 60 local bands are set to play shows in non-traditional venues throughout the Glebe Friday night and all day and night Saturday, with shows happening at bookstores, bike shops and other Glebe businesses.

The partnership between the Glebe BIA and CityFolk is a way to engage the local business community with a big event at Lansdowne. The idea is that when the big headliners like Van Morrison and the Avett Brothers close out the show at Lansdowne, partygoers will descend down Bank Street to catch more live music at the 12 other Marvest venues.

“Like a lot of events, sometimes it’s difficult to figure out how to involve local businesses when you are putting on an outdoor event in an outdoor park,” says CityFolk Artistic and Executive Director Mark Monahan.

“Marvest was an attempt to, not only include some business, but also to feature and put in the spotlight, the great local talent we have here in the city.”

The weekend will also boast many kid and family friendly events during the day on Saturday, with children’s entertainer Hey Buster playing Kunstadt Sports at 4 p.m. and soul-infused indie pop band LeMeow taking over The FarmTeam Cookhouse from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Reveered children’s performer plays a show for a slightly older audience that can stay up past nine with his Aberdeen Stage show Saturday at 8:30 p.m. The festival will also include a kid’s zone at Lansdowne Park all week long.

There are also many louder rock shows in the evening throughout the weekend with two showcases at Irene’s Pub and an impressive eight live concerts at Original Burger Joint.

Marvest gets underway Sept. 18 when Suits ‘N Toques takes over the Whole Foods Market at 7 p.m.
