"It’s time to sharpen those blades and lace ‘em up, because the outdoor skating court at Lansdowne Park is now open for skaters of all kind.

Start working on that perfect triple sow cow among the stunning and iconic backdrop of the historic Aberdeen Pavilion. Okay, maybe lay off the spin tricks for a bit and go for a casual skate with the family.

We’ve all been cooped up indoors since the COVID-19 pandemic and we know just how difficult it has been on residents to see hockey rinks, gyms, swimming pools, cinemas and all the fun stuff close, open, close and then open again.

Snow has begun to fall and winter is here! You may have spotted our holiday winter banners blowing through the crisp air and our stunning classic tree lights that brighten the street.

It’s time to make the absolute best out of our situation and that all starts with one of Canada’s favourite pastimes – ice skating and Christmas lights.

Access to the rink comes on a first-come, first-served basis and each city rink has posted limits for the number of skaters. Ottawa Public Health recommends practicing COVIDwise etiquette and limiting your ice time to 30 minutes during busy times so everyone can get a chance to skate.

Throughout the season, visit for skating times and any weather-related closures – such as warm or rainy conditions. Residents can also download the free City of Ottawa App, available now through the Apple Store or on Google Play, to get notifications on their handheld devices.

* No hockey sticks are permitted on the Lansdowne Skating Rink.

While the Ottawa Christmas Market has been officially postponed to next year, that doesn’t mean you can’t have some festive fun at Lansdowne this holiday season. The Lights of Lansdowne are now on! Take pictures with family and bubble friends in front of  the biggest Christmas Tree in Ottawa. Make some festive memories under a stunning canopy of lights in the Casino Lac Leamy Square and there will be plenty of instagramable elements to incorporate into your perfectly-curated social feed. Access is free throughout the month of December.
