Glebe BIA Wins Top Industry Award for Glebe Spree 150

The Glebe BIA was one of eight organizations to receive a Pinnacle Award at the Downtown Achievement Awards, hosted by the International Downtown Association (IDA), for its work on the Glebe Spree 150 holiday promotion in 2017. The Downtown Achievement Awards identify outstanding improvements to urban centres by dedicated organizations around the globe.

The BIA was awarded the top honour – along with two additional Certificates of Merit in the Marketing and Communications category – at the IDA Annual Conference and Tradeshow this past October.

Since Glebe Spree’s inception in 2011, the Glebe BIA was able to decrease its investment by an impressive 52% while increasing the return on investment (ROI) by more than 350%. The Glebe BIA’s Canada 150 edition of Glebe Spree was its best contest to date, with a record 31,557 entries submitted – an increase of 65% from the previous year. Last year’s Glebe Spree also featured more prizes than ever, with five weekly cash prizes of $1,000 and 75 instant-win Any Day Prizes.

“Glebe Spree is a great way to reward our best shoppers – customers who continue to support all the amazing businesses in our  wonderful neighbourhood,” said Glebe BIA Executive Director Andrew Peck. “We are honoured to receive a Pinnacle Award for this promotion but credit goes to our merchants and the loyal customer base that help our businesses thrive, as well as the great talent at Mediaplus Advertising.”

Also in the Marketing and Communications category, the Glebe BIA received a Certificate of Merit for its Get-it-in-the-Glebe marketing campaign. Working with local advertising agency Mediaplus Advertising, the campaign was launched to build awareness for the vast array of choice patrons have in the areas of shopping, dining and entertainment. The Glebe also received a Certificate of Merit for its intheglebe.ca online presence, recently enhanced by local design firm The Art Department. Merit awards recognize best practices in the areas of innovation, representation and sustainability. We would like to recognize the talent and expertise of Mediaplus Advertising for the assertive online campaign that, to date, has yielded an impressive 24 million impressions online, and The Art Department, who enhanced the Glebe’s website for with new features, a cleaner design and a more user-friendly interface.

The International Downtown Association recognized a total of 65 urban innovators from nearly 50 cities in the U.S., Canada, U.K., New Zealand and South Africa. The top eight projects received Pinnacle Awards, the industry’s highest honor, representing the most creative and inspiring innovations in urban place management.

“These innovative projects set an outstanding example for cities around the world,” said David Downey, IDA President and CEO. “IDA members continue to champion livable, vital and thriving urban centers. Each of these projects has made its particular city a better place for the people who live and work there.”
