Gateway proposals hot topic in the Glebe
Hundreds of people have already weighed in with comments regarding the proposed gateway sign concepts for the north entrance of the Glebe. While a design direction has not yet been chosen, it’s clear that the community is thrilled with the project and the prospect of seeing a new installation in near future.
There has been great support for all four concepts, a testament to the work of the volunteers involved. This included the expertise of local creative professionals and a desire to find innovative options that embody the spirit and vibrancy of the Glebe.
The gateway signage project aims to introduce a welcoming installation at the corner of Bank Street and Chamberlain Avenue and will provide an inviting and engaging entry point to the Glebe. The designs all reflect the pride of all who live and work here and the desire to greet to visitors coming to explore one of Canada’s great neighbourhoods.
As part of the process, the proposed concepts were widely available for review and this is reflected by the volume of input. Posters were physically mounted at two locations in the Glebe throughout the month of September, published in the Glebe Report and online at intheglebe.ca. The four designs put forward to the community for their consideration are the result of months of effort by the working group, consultations with city staff, research, and discussions with residents, businesses and other stakeholders.
The project will be financed in part by revitalization fund made available from the Province of Ontario, with contributions from the Glebe Business Improvement Area and local community group, Underground Sound.
In the weeks ahead, feedback will be thoroughly assessed to ensure the final direction reflects the desire expressed by the community. The email address firstname.lastname@example.org will remain operational to ensure that there is a channel for people to express their views and continue to offer perspective and insight that will help inform and shape the project moving forward.
