Fun Father’s Day Weekend in the Glebe
Calling all fathers! The Glebe’s got something for every dad to enjoy this weekend. No matter what kind of father figure you’re lucky enough to have, we’ve got you covered.
Whether your dad will be joining or not, we have something for everybody to enjoy!
For the beer dads
Let’s be honest: It’s not always easy being a dad. Sometimes the best solution for pops to deal with all the nonsense that comes with being a father is simple: alcohol. For the dads that enjoy dabbling into the booze from time to time, this is the perfect weekend to be in the Glebe.
Ottawa Beer Fest
Anything with “beer” in the title will have most dads on board immediately. Enjoy the annual craft beer festival all day Friday and Saturday at the Aberdeen Pavilion with over 40 breweries to choose from. And since you have the best dad ever, maybe he deserves to try all of them… maybe.
Even if you aren’t a craft beer enthusiast, you can expect tons of activities throughout the weekend such as live music, beer pong, axe-throwing, a 5k run/walk, yoga and snacks. Get all the deets here.
Craft Beer Market Brunch
What’s the best way to cure the Beer Fest hangover? More alcohol! Craft Beer Market is taking care of it with their famous Father’s Day Brunch Buffet this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., complete with a DIY Caesar bar, so pops can make it jussstttt the way he likes.
For the sporty dads
Just because you’re a dad, doesn’t mean you need to have a dad-bod. Work off that beer belly with some physical activities that make working out fun. For real. Whether dad makes an appearance or not, these activities are perfect for anyone!
3×3 Basketball Tourney
Whether you’re watching your kids play, getting a group of friends together for fun, or competing for an opportunity to represent Canada in the FIBA 3×3 World Tour hosted in Edmonton, this tournament has something for everyone! The event is on all day Saturday at the Lansdowne Park courts. Check out the website to register for teams of all ages and skill-level.
TD Place Stadium Workout
This might be where pops is used to seeing his favourite teams play, but this Sunday let him break a sweat instead! This Sunday at 8 a.m. come out to the free Lansdowne Stadium workout: Father’s Day edition, hosted by GoodLife Fitness. Set your alarms and get ready for an hour of push-ups, sit-ups, lunges, and stairs. Did we mention it’s free?
For the food-loving dads
Ottawa Farmers’ Market
All that physical activity is going to make you hungry, so replenish yourself at the Outdoor Ottawa Farmers’ Market on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. where you can find some fresh local deals. They’ve got the first strawberries of the season, so make sure to snag some!
Dinner is on the kids tonight!
With over 60 eateries throughout the Glebe, even the pickiest of dads will find something they love. Check out our restaurant list here.
For the cultured dads
Here in the Glebe we want to celebrate dads from all over.
Ottawa Indian Film Festival Awards
The 2nd annual OIFFA’s are here all weekend! The awards will celebrate and showcase Indian films, filmmakers, performers and business executives, while promoting the diverse perspectives of the Indian diaspora. Treat dad to the ultimate movie experience at Aberdeen Square with different ticket packages available.
Grab your Tata this Sunday and celebrate all that rich Polish culture he passed down to you. Polish Day is filled with music, dancing, and special guests, emphasizing friendly relations between Poland and Canada and celebrating all the contributions Polish-Canadians have made to our diverse society. The free event welcomes everyone to stop by the Horticulture Building in Lansdowne Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
For the kids
I think every father could agree on one thing: If the kids are happy, he’s happy. Ensure no whining, no tears, and no fighting by taking the kids to these events:
Whole Foods’ Kids’ Club
Make sure to stop by the Whole Foods’ Kids’ Club Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., where they can enjoy fresh snacks and fun crafts for free. (But most importantly: free coffee for all caregivers.) Check out the weekly event here.
Children’s Book Reading
There is always an adventure to be had with the LeMay Valley friends! Bring the kids to Octopus Books on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon to hear author Daphne McFee read stories about Sammy the Squirrel, Bart the Beaver, and Ruskin the Rabbit as they overcome various challenges. Help your kids learn valuable life lessons without doing any work. Nice.
GNAG Youth Dance
Summer is so close the kids can almost taste it. Send them off this Friday night at the Glebe Community Centre to get a glimpse of that summer-time feeling at GNAG’s end-of-year bash! This is their last youth dance of the school year so make sure to get your tickets!
Now, we all know dads are complex and your old man may not fit perfectly into one of these dad-egories. If you’re still scrambling to figure out what to get him this year, check out this list of great Glebe gift ideas.
You don’t need to break the bank to show Padre how much he means to you. Check out our merchants’ promos here, just in time for Father’s Day.
Here are just a few dad-specific specials to take advantage of:
Boston Pizza The Glebe is inviting you to join their Fathers’ Day celebration, which will include a Redblacks Home Opener ticket draw. The little kids can enjoy $4.99 kids’ meals and the big kids can split a domestic pitcher with their old man, on special for $14.
It’s a good day to be a dad at Jack’s Lansdowne: all fathers will receive a complimentary Father’s Day beer mug, just for being awesome.
A sweet collaboration made with sporty dads in mind: Buy a Joe Mammas’ bicycle and receive a gift card to cover a few pints at Clocktower.
