Final Weekend for Snowflakes in the Glebe Campaign
February 15, 2012 (OTTAWA, ON) – The Snowflakes in the Glebe campaign is drawing to a close. This year the Glebe BIA teamed up with the Ottawa Food Bank to raise money for essential foods that are usually in short supply. This is the last week that you can help! Simply ‘purchase’ a snowflake from participating Glebe businesses for a small donation (a loonie or twoonie) to go to the food bank. Your signed snowflake will then be put on display to help create the snowflake motif throughout the Glebe.
Snowflakes in the Glebe is part of the Winterlude celebration taking place throughout Ottawa. After a skate on the canal, lookout for our rickshaw runners, and hop on for a complimentary ride to the Glebe! Rides will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. And if you have already been to the Glebe they will gladly pick you up at the corner of 5th and Bank Street and take you down to the canal.
This weekend will also feature ice carving demonstrations by Dewey Smith, beginning Saturday morning outside Feleena’s restaurant (742 Bank St). Dewey represented Canada at the International Snow Sculpting Competition at the Quebec City Winter Carnival. His team’s sculpture placed third among 16 teams from around the world!
We would like to thank all our participants for their ongoing support. The inaugural Snowflakes in the Glebe campaign has been a resounding success, due to the efforts of all our local business owners, our friends at GNAG, and our of course to the many citizens that have contributed to this worthy cause. Stay tuned to find out how much money we raised this year for the Ottawa Food Bank!
