Christmas in the Hood hits the Glebe this Thursday
The weather outside may be frightful, but Christmas shopping in the Glebe will be absolutely delightful this Thursday night.
Bank Street will be brimming with Christmas music, holiday lights, sweets, treats, and deals galore as a number of Glebe businesses celebrate “Christmas in the Hood.”
The merchant-driven, neighbourhood-wide shopping event will see a number of shops open up their doors until 9 p.m. on November 29 with deals on everything from Japanese knives and clothing to kitchen equipment and olive oils from around the world.
“It’s really to celebrate Christmas and make it a spectacle,” says Knifewear manager Chris Lord, who initiated the business-to-business shopping event in the Glebe.
It didn’t take long for other businesses to pull out the Christmas decorations and crank the Christmas music up to 11, as close to a dozen different shops are hosting in-store events complete with hot chocolate, treats, giveaways and specials throughout the night.
At Knifewear, you’ll be greeted at the door with hot chocolate, mulled cider and shortbread cookies, while Christmas music will fill the quaint Bank Street knife shop with holiday cheer. The shop is offering free gift-wrapping throughout the evening.
Just off Bank Street, you can sample some of the world’s finest olive oils from The Unrefined Olive who will be opening their doors until 9 p.m. for the event. The charming shop is a must-stop for any food lover – and the perfect spot to snag a gift for that impossible-to-buy-for person.
Down the street at JD Adam Kitchen Co., you can help celebrate the long-time Glebe store’s 30th anniversary during their Customer Appreciation Night all day Thursday. The store will have in-store giveaways, and a number of raffle prizes that you’ll want to bring home with you. The store is celebrating from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
A few blocks over, Delilah will be busting out the bubbly during their “Christmas in the Hood” event that will see prices on boots, pants and hats slashed down. All winter boots at Delilah will be $180 down from $240 while pants will be 25% off. The charming little shop will be bursting with holiday spirit all night long.
The Joy of Gluten Free will be another great stop on the Christmas tour Thursday night, as the shop will be offering samplings of their delicious gluten-free treats while the Joy pop-up shop will be showcasing its unique array of locally-made goods from necklaces and healing candles to handmade gift boxes.
At Mickle Mack’s Haberdashery, the Glebe’s new hat shop, you can get 50 per cent off mix-and-match beanies when you purchase one at full price. The unique shop will off free Christmas treats throughout the night.
And if you’re out and about celebrating with these Glebe shops, you’ll need to stay fuelled up. Boston Pizza will also be taking part in the event, as will Starbucks to keep you energized so you don’t drop after you shop.
So don’t go home after work, just head to the Glebe and celebrate Christmas with us in style.
