Five women-run Glebe businesses are partnering together with a local blogger to give one lucky shopper a $1,000 gift package that includes a haircut and consultation, skin care treatments, a massage, a gym pass and a gift package and grocery gift card.

The Dailey Method, Mckeen Metro Glebe, Glebe Health HouseShowpony HairORESTA Organic Skincare and blogger Amy in 613 have launched the Empower and Renew in the Glebe contest that gives one lucky winner the opportunity to do exactly that – Renew and Empower themselves.

Oresta Korbutiak of ORESTA Organic Skincare says the contest is not only a way to support local businesses in the Glebe, but also to give busy moms, dads and everyone else a chance to pamper themselves, as it’s often difficult to do so in such a busy life.

“As a busy business owner, wife and mother, I tend to forget about myself,” says Korbutiak, who has donated an ORESTA Holistic Facial to the October contest.

“We all tend to forget to put ourselves first. This is a unique opportunity to recharge, to make more time for yourself with a whole month of renewal, empowerment and self-care.”

More than 10,000 people have already entered the contest online, proving that a partnered-business contest is a great way for Glebe businesses to support each other and give more exposure to related businesses in the area. Korbutiak says she’s inspired everyday by fellow business owners in the Glebe.

“Cross promotion is incredibly valuable to community building with each other and more importantly, with the neighbourhood,” she adds.

“We all represent different areas of wellness, renewal and empowerment in the Glebe. We have each created a community that we are able to share with each other through our social networks. This is critical to educating the community on what is available in the Glebe.”

The winner of the Renew and Empower contest will also receive a one-month unlimited pass to The Dailey Method Barre Studio, a gift basket and $100 gift card from McKeen Metro Glebe, a one-hour massage at Glebe Health House and an in-depth consultation and the service of your choice at Showpony Hair.

Local blogger Amy Karlin, who is a frequent Glebe shopper, has teamed up with the five businesses to help promote the contest online. She says shopping local is important to her, not only because she gets quality, customized service from these and other businesses, but also because it helps sustain a local business community and neighbourhood.

“When you support local, you help keep money and jobs right here in the local community. In my experience I always receive stellar service from locals too — they’re incredibly knowledgeable because their business is their passion.”

Entering the contest is simple. Participants need to visit all five businesses online through Karlin’s blog here and click through for more and more chances to win. You can follow each business on social media, post a comment on the blog and tweet about the contest for even more chances to win.
