Dessertfest, footy, Canadian Eats all on the menu this weekend in the Glebe
And the sun is shining – just in time for a wicked weekend in the Glebe.
Whether you’re a sports fan, a food lover, a yogi, a sweet tooth, a cowboy or a culture vulture, you’ll find it hard to rest if you spend this weekend in the Glebe.
Who wants to party, Croatian style? Ottawa 2017’s Welcomes the World series continues Friday at the Horticulture Building with traditional music, food and tourism. Theatrical performer and singer Ivo Gamulin Gianni will be the event’s special musical guest, while the Folklore Ensemble Croatoan will showcase Croatian music, dances and songs throughout the day. Grab your Ottawa 2017 passport and head to Lansdowne between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. all day Friday. The event is free to everyone. More in formation is available here. The series continues Sunday when 18 countries in the European Union throw a Euro 150 party with food, drink, music and dance all day.
After filling up on Croatian Goulash, you’ll need to fill that sweet tooth, but you won’t have to walk very far. A few steps away, inside the Aberdeen Pavilion is Ottawa’s version of Willy Wonka’s candy factory: Dessertfest 2017 will take over the Pavilion with sweets, treats, donuts and a pie-eating contest that will have you covered in classics. More than 50 dessert vendors will be showing off exceptional sweets– all of them vying for the Most Unique Dessert Award at this year’s festival. There will be kids’ activities, including bouncy castles, obstacle courses, face painting and live animals. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door, Kids 12 and under can fill up for free. Yay, sugar rush! Get your tickets here.
Cowboys and cowgirls – or anyone who enjoys watching a human being take on a 1,500-pound beast with the attempts of taming it for eight seconds should grab tickets to the PBR Monster Energy Tour Friday night. Watch 25 of the world’s top bull riders fight for $20,000 in prize money. Tighten up your belt buckle, it’s going to get wild at TD Place. Tickets here.
We’re not even done yet. The Ottawa Fury take on the Harrisburg City Islanders Saturday Night at TD Place, as they try to climb into a playoff spot with a win. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. in the Glebe. Tickets here.
